Why the Russians, Canadians, Americans, etc. there is plenty of oil to the North Pole?
all I have learned in my life was oil is the result of large masses of carbon-based life falling dead and rotting on the ground, then the other layers of them drops dead in a new sediment layer, and so on, until there were so many dead bodies based on carbon rotting under severe pressure so as to form oil. Why do not have oil reserves in the north polar cap? there never was a continent that, only the sea water. I do not see how many whales just drop dead in the ocean and not have their bodies eaten by scavengers faces the sea of oil would be created. Why are people fighting over the "rights" the oil reserves in the northern polar region? which would make oil? if not oil, natural gas is it? Why do that? and how it would be there?
The answer to your question is plate tectonics. The area under the North Pole has not always been located at the north pole. Check out this paleomap Carboniferous: During http://www.scotese.com/newpage4.htm the (Carboniferous about 350 million years ago) much of this area was near Ecuador. Greenland and Alaska were still equatorial land masses. A good example of how this works is that Prudhoe Bay on the north slope of Alaska and one of the largest oil fields in the United States has oil that is generally believed to have originated in the shales of Triassic age, about 190 million years. Under the rocks are of Carboniferous age limestone that formed in a tropical marine environment. None of these rocks were deposited in a continent, but were deposited in a basin the Navy through tectonic plate has been all the way from Ecuador to the poles. Many of these rock types extend far into the Arctic Ocean. Oil is the result of large masses of organic matter falling down and be buried. However, in most cases this only occurs in the ocean, and bodies that are falling are microscopic and nearly microscopic-plankton and zooplankton size (Plants and animals). Large bodies of animals and fish are rarely preserved and have almost no contribution to the formation of oil. In order for deposits to form finally the oil, which must be deposited in an environment anoxic (ie, no oxygen is present) to avoid rot. As little as 1% of the resulting rock may be composed of these plants and animal carcasses and time can still generate oil. The bodies of the whales will probably never become oil, because it would rot or be eaten by microorganisms much before we had the opportunity to be preserved in bottom sediments (essentially mud). There are likely deposits of petroleum and natural gas in the Arctic Ocean. USGS recently published an evaluation of estimates of oil and gas reserves of 237 billion barrels are still undiscovered in the Arctic. Believed by the USGS in 14% of oil remaining to be discovered in the world. In comparison, Saudi Arabia is believed to 264 billion barrels of oil. Do you understand now why There is some competition on these areas? Here is the report: http://energy.usgs.gov/flash/NE_GREENLAND_ARCTIC_slideshow.swf
