Ick Removal?
Hello everyone,
My fish have developed Ick, thanks to a new fish.
I have a mere 10 gallon tank, all was good before this.
As I bought this Ick (general) medicine for the water, the lady at PetSmart told me to take out my carbon filter and treat on the 1, 3, and 5 (possibly more) days.
Further reading the directions on the bottle, it says to keep my normal filtration and aeration.....
Should I keep my filter in or out?
I don't want to overdose my fish by keeping it out!

I have an aquatech filter, I don't know which filer pad is the carbon one (if any)
It's a double filter system, the first pad (where the water hits first) is blue and is replaced every 3 or so weeks
the second is a white less dense pad that can be rinsed and re-used
Remove the carbon, but still run the filter.
If it's one of those cartridge things where you can't get at the carbon to take it out, and it's over a week old, don't worry about it, it isn't doing anything anyway.
If you look on a package of Maracyn it will tell you to remove carbon because carbon will remove the medication, but if the carbon is over 6 days old, don't worry about removing it.

Whats up with all the ich these past few days? Seems that every couple hours a new question pops up about it - and when I was at the LFS last night I couldn't help but notice that they'd had a major run on Ich meds..... Sounds like an epidemic.

The carbon should be in the blue one. If you feel it, it should feel like there are little pebbles inside. That's the carbon.
