How do you fix a refrigerator water line vibration?
so i have a side by side fridge and i live in a newer house with a water line for the ice maker. yesterday morning i noticed a tapping noise. I pulled the fridge out and the entire water line from the wall to the inline water filter to the fridge was vibrating like a nervous dude shaking his leg. What in the world causes this and how do i stop it? it did stop on its own, but then it started up later. then it stopped and it started up again.
The water line to your ice maker is coiled back there to allow you to pull the fridge out for cleaning back there now and then. The line should also have an in-line filter to help purify the water and to prevent trash from getting into the seat of the water solenoid Valve.
Being a new installation It may be that your water pressure coming into your house might be high. The water line solenoid valve that automatically opens to allow that water into the fridge to periodically fill the ice maker may be trying to close back off after filling and the excess pressure is hard to seat off against making the water line chatter. It is not uncommon for city and county water systems to boost the pressure to deliver to all customers and the pressures could reach over a hundred PSI. The home doesn't need more the 50 PSI.
More than that will shorten the life of your water heater.
It is not good to have to much pressure on a vessel and it will cause heated water to come to the limit of the relief on your tank. A fairly in expensive Water pressure reducing valve can be put on your incoming water line just inside you home and it can be adjusted down to the pressure you need. When I built my house the City I live in sold me a PRV because they had just boosted the pressure to 120 pounds.
