Calcium deposits coming from faucet. What can I do to fix this problem?
I have chunks of off-white deposits coming out of my faucet. I have emptied the faucet filter twice in the last month in the bathroom farthest from the main water pipe because of the accumualtion of the deposits. I believe that it is calcium due to the hard water content of the area I live in (Southern Nevada). The house is only 10 yrs old but then again so is our water heater. Is it because it has accumualted in the water heater and is now starting to break free? Is it possible that it is building up in the pipes? Other than replacement of the water heater is there an easy/cheap way to fix this? Can ingesting the water be harmful because of the deposits?
If you have an electric water heater then that is likely the problem. Try this, look on the bottom of your water heater, there should be a valve that you can connect you water hose to. Connect a water hose and turn the valve on. (U may need a flat head screw driver, don't turn off the power or the water to the heater) If your water heater is in the attic then you can discharge into the nearest toilet. Let the water run for ten or fifteen minutes, or until it runs clear. Then turn on a valve inside the home, hot side only, and let it run for another five or ten minutes. This should purge most of the water from your water heater and get rid of the hard water deposits at the bottom of your water heater. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!!
