I wish I had saved the lengthy response I wrote a couple of days when I first saw this poem because it was very detailed. Anyway, this is a beautiful poem rich in imagery and emotion. At first this poem I would have accepted at face value and assumed that was just talking about a beautiful corner of the memories that you enjoyed in his youth, but now old and dry simply because the metaphor is so complete. However, in the previous post, you asked what the river could represent and after reading it again I think the metaphor of the river can represent love or a lover who has changed and dried up due to life circumstances. I do not know if I understood it correctly, but I know this is a very beautiful poem. I have only one thing you can not wrap my brain around. I do not understand the simile "Soft as the strands of a baby." Apart from that I I would say that this is a poem made. Well done.
