Hoover Upright Vacuum - Still Cleaning Up
The first true portable electric vacuum cleaner was invented by one James Spangler in Canton, Ohio in 1907 when he modified a carpet sweeper that he used as a janitor in a department store and he went on to patent the idea in 1908 after he had added a cloth, dust collection bag and removable cleaning attachments. One of the first to sit up and take notice was William Hoover, a relative of Spangler who bought the patent and then developed the idea alongside Spangler, in the process, sparking a revolution in household cleaning.
In 1908, the first bag on a stick Hoover upright vacuum cleaner was patented and introduced to a sceptical world and not unusually, failed to set the world alight. As the machine worked so well, they were confident it would sell if only people would try it which is why they offered a free home trial over 10 days to everyone, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Hoover has remained the pre-eminent vacuum cleaner in most households throughout the U.S and Great Britain over the last 100 years. So much so that in Britain, where the Hoover upright vacuum has been made since 1919, any one who is vacuuming anything is said to be 'hoovering'.
It wasn't until the early nineties that vacuum cleaner design underwent any really radical changes with the introduction of the Dyson cyclone vacuum cleaner that no longer required a dust collection bag. An invention incidentally that James Dyson spent years perfecting in his garden shed. The new Dyson was a great success despite it's price ticket, at least you no longer had to buy bags for your vacuum cleaner, although the vacuum bag salesman wouldn't have been too happy, it did prove to all the other manufacturers that innovation was still possible and wanted.
Hoover has responded magnificently, introducing bagless models to their renowned WindTunnel range, including a Hoover upright vacuum that is self propelled. They have also further developed their own cyclonic system, similar to a Dyson but thankfully at a much lower price. Hoover also understands that not everyone can afford or even necessarily needs these high end vacuums so produces a range of cleaners, including the Widepath Tempo that retail for less than a hundred dollars.
If you are an allergy sufferer, the best vacuum for you is a HEPA vac. The HEPA filter system is the most effective allergen remover available. A Hoover upright vacuum with inbuilt HEPA filtration trap all dust mites, plant pollen and pet allergens.
Hoover upright vacuum cleaners are now right back up there at the top of most peoples wish list because of their quality, practicality and value for money.
