goldfish care basics, plz help!!!?
how do u set up a 32 litre tank for fancy goldfish and how many goldfish can be kept in this size tank, what do u need in the tank? what plants are suitible? what treatments do u need for the tank and the fish? how big filter do u need? how often do u have to clean the tank and change the gravel? is it ok to stick ur hands in the tank while the fish are in it? what is a gravel vacuum and where do u get one? what is an air bubbler and do u need one? how much surface area does there have to be for this size tank? what light do u need and where do u get one from? what ornaments are suitible? plz help me i have no idea about fish tanks and want to set one up plz tell everything i need to know to keep my goldfish happy and healthy....
32 litres is really to small for even one goldfish long term I'm afraid. I'm glad you are asking these questions beforehand though. They tend to be pretty rough on plants, so most don't use them. Floating plants with low requirements are the way to go if you want them to have some fresh food. You want a filter rated for a larger aquarium than what is being used. A hang on back filter works well with goldfish. The gravel is usually vacuumed when doing water changes (weekly is best). This is when about 10% or more of the water is replaced with fresh. You need to dechlorinate your water by aging (or if chloramine is used) a treatment available at pets stores. An air bubbler uses an air pump and an air stone to put bubbles in the water to help it circulate, though they aren't generally needed. The light depends on what plants you want to keep (if any) and personal preference. Ones that are sold as aquarium safe are the way to go (otherwise they may rot or leach chemicals). You really need to pick up a good book on keeping fish from the local library. You will also want to ask pet stores about local aquariast groups. They can help show you the ropes and their tanks to help you get started. They can also often help with free plants, fish, from their own aquariums.
