You are ridiculous. Now that that's out of the way, the situation your friend is trying, if true, would be considered fraud. Filter Queen forged their product claiming it was doing things that did and sold it under the pretext that it was a new product when it is actually used. In addition, all contracts should be done in good faith to perform them. The sale of defective products with no intention of replacing them would make the contract in bad faith. If you really feel hurt, because the low value of the item, you can make a small claims court. You could also write a letter to the Queen of the filter letting them know you plan on handling the issue in small claims court and see if they respond. If that is assisted by a lawyer, I could probably produce a very convincing letter specifically name the civil codes are being violated, and may even be able to tell your friend about the means by which they can collect damages, plus costs of the product, depending of how accurate is his story and thereby violated the codes.
