why my 302 ford engine with short dual exhaust overheat?
i've a '83 cj-7 jeep, with a v-8 302, two barrel carburetor, oem air filter and intake and headers. but after cutting the system and changing to dual pipes with no mufflers only big tips i began to experience overheating problems. the tails are very short past the transmission skid plate, and i don't use the fenders, so the engine compartment is very open.
Do you have a fan shroud? And are you using the stock radiator? If no shroud is present than your fan is pulling air from around the engine/outside since there are no fenders, the path of least resistance. Which means no/very little air is passing through the radiator to cool the engine. Of course this is if you are overheating while in traffic or going slow. If you are overheating all the time I would suggest a new larger radiator, as the stock one may not be up to cooling a v8.
