Taking Care of Your Upright Oreck Vacuum
Oreck vacuum cleaners are the most popular choice for people who need a light weight vacuum cleaner. The Oreck lightweight XL series vacuum doesn't have onboard attachments, and it's design makes it a relatively to maintain. From the most basic to the top of the line hepa model, Oreck vacuum cleaner maintenance is a simple and quick process in most instances.
The biggest selling point with the Oreck is it's weight. Oreck is dependable and transports very well, so it it a dependable vacuum for somebody with a cleaning business. As with all lighweight vacuums, it's not the strongest vacuum cleaner on the market by any means, and you should make it a point to maintain your vacuum with some regularity to insure that is cleaning as well as it should be.
1. Don't wrench or jerk on the vacuum cord. The cord comes out of the base of vacuum on the least expensive residential vacuums. The commercial and higher line residential versions of the Oreck have an ergonomic handle, and this is where the cord is mounted. Regardless of where the cord is coming from, don't wrap it up to tight when you are putting the vacuum away. Time and time again I see customers bring in their Oreck vacuum and they have loosened or broke the cord as a result of wrapping it up to tight. All I can say on this point is take it easy.
2. Change the vacuum belt more frequently. Change it every year. Yes, every year. Don't wait for the brush roller to stop spinning. These belts stretch over time. Changing your Oreck vacuum belt every year will minimize your loss of performance by keeping your roller brush agitating your carpet as well as it can. While your changing your vacuum belt, it would make sense to clear your vacuum roller of any hair and carpet fiber that may be wrapped around it.
3. Be careful what you vacuum. Oreck upright vacuum cleaners have a fan attached to the motor. The fan is in the path of the debris as it is removed from your carpet and vacuumed into your machine. Do not vacuum up coins, any hard objects, or anything that you can pick up with your hand. Vacuum cleaner fans break or can become jammed, which will ultimately harm your motor. This isn't a car wash vacuum, it's a lightweight residential vacuum cleaner, and needs to be treated as such.
4. Don't overfill the vacuum bag. Oreck vacuum bags are actually rather large when compared with most of their counterparts. Oreck is one of the easiest vacuum cleaners to detect a full vacuum bag, because you will notice how heavy the vacuum feels when you are using it. Overfilling an Oreck vacuum bag will cause the debris being removed from your carpet to back up into the vacuum tube. Clog up your Oreck in this manner, and you'll probably need to disassemble the vacuum. I would change the bag as it approaches 3/4 full. Most upright Oreck vacuum cleaners utilize a style CC vacuum cleaner bag.
