Best way to clean the air in my house?
We have a large house. It is older and we are renovating so that means removing old plaster walls which creates a LOT of nasty dust. Plus we have a few cats. Plus 3 members of my household smoke, but I'm not one of them. So I am concerned about how congested the air in my house has to be with impurities! I can't stand knowing all the crap I must be breathing in. So, what is the best solution to cleaning the air in my house? I have seen air purifiers, but they can be expensive and I would have to buy 20 of them to cover my entire house! Please help.
The cheapest way is to get the smokers to smoke outside being considerate of your health. It seams that you dont have the finances for a whole house electronic air cleaner that would attach to the furnace. But this is the ultimate way to solve your problem There's also whole house air purifiers that work. You can tell the results by the amount of smoke residue and dander that they collect.
Other than this you can use a higher density filter in the furnace, but be aware that the higher the density the less efficient your furnace will be. hardware stores also sell filters that can be placed in all your return air vents that you can wash when needed.
Keeping the cats brushed will cut down on some of the dander,
