Light Bulb Lamp
I put in my first CFL light bulb into my lamp. It's 27W (equivalent to 100).?
It's been two weeks and the light bulb stopped working. I tried it in another lamp, it didn't work. I put in the other one from the package and it works. The last few nights I have noticed that the light from the lightbulb would kind of fluctuate. Did I get a dud or does this happen sometimes? Considering they are supposed to last 7 yrs. I am kind of dissapointed.
I've replace over 40 bulbs in my house with CFL's. On the average I'd say 10% or so have died within the first couple of months. After that most have lasted for more than three years.
They seem to be very susceptible to jarring. I have one socket that kills any light bulb that I put in it after a few months (kids bouncing around), but the CFL's will not last more than a day before dying...
Another thing to check is to make sure the lamp you are using does not have loose wiring. The electronics in the CFL are much more sensitive to fluctuation's as well --plus it's dangerous 
.
Finally, CFL's unlike regular bulbs are not meant to be turned on and off constantly. They should be used in locations that are turned on for more than 30 minutes at a time. Constantly turning them on and off dramatically reduces their life.
I've been very happy so far with switching over. The most reliable brand I've found so far has been n-vision (I think that is the correct name). I got them them at either Lowe's or Home Depot (can't remember which). The worst so far has been the GE ones that I've gotten from Walmart.
